University is about to kick off its first ever football game and it's building the program from the ground up.

This isn't just a starting a new football program.

It's a chance to play in his hometown.

The Evergreen Park High School graduate is one of the players taking the field part of Chicago States.

First football team to give people something to watch like every other state got big football team.

We're trying to be the next big football team Chicago.

The Cougars are bringing together players from across the country, including Trejo a Western Michigan University transfer who says his great grandmother lived in Chicago.

I want to championship at Western Michigan University time when that bring that winning culture here as well.

So, you know, all this coaching staff they have when a coach or the players here have a winning culture.

And I just want to be a part of that journey.

Thats really what happened.

Still, the coaches and players say they're putting in the work, coaching staff and the players that we're going to get out the mud and grime everything's going to be perfect.

But we're willing here to make history as a state.

Their mission is simple.

Everybody came here from different backgrounds.

We got people from at a state out of country.

We're the same goal there by trying to get better by Tony better than they were yesterday.

So that's the mindset it is still a football game.

My motion.

I want to stay calm, stay humble and go out and do we gotta do.

>> But a new sport identity of the south side of Chicago, Chicago sports we go to the next.

>> Great sports platform, a division one university right on the South side.

You know, we we truly are Chicago's only division.
